A historic off-grid inn perched on the south slope of Mt. Tamalpais — accessible only by foot or bike, with one of the most extraordinary views in California.
No electricity. Gas-lit rooms. Quilts and wood floors. The Inn operates exactly as it has for over a century — and that's the whole point. Seven lodge rooms and five private cabins, each earned by the hike in. The kitchen is yours — bring your ingredients and cook like you mean it.
When the lights go out at night, the Inn glows warm against the dark mountain. Below, the Bay shimmers. Above, stars appear that you forgot existed.
The West Point Inn Association is the volunteer heart of the Inn. Members earn discounted stays, early booking windows, and the satisfaction of keeping a 120-year-old piece of California history alive.

West Point Inn with the Mt. Tamalpais & Muir Woods Railway, c. 1904
Built in 1904 as a rest stop on the Mill Valley & Mt. Tamalpais Scenic Railway — 281 turns and curves. The railroad is gone, but the Inn stands exactly where it always has.
The legendary fundraiser — Mother's Day, Father's Day and other dates through the year. Hike up, eat well, hike back. Running since the 1940s. 2026 is sold out — join the waitlist for 2027.
